The Water Source

In 2006 The Source Café began work through The Water Source, providing clean water resources accompanied by health and sanitation education in partnering communities throughout the Busoga region of Uganda.

According to the Joint Monitoring Project (JMP) of the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF statistics compiled in 2004*, 60% of the Ugandan Population has access to clean drinking water, compared to almost 100% in developed Western countries. Uganda has a recorded population of over 30 million people, and is growing so fast that the population could possibly reach 50 million people shortly after the year 2025**.  This means that millions within Uganda are drinking from open water sources that are often contaminated, and that millions are suffering from dysentery, worms and various other water born diseases.  Worldwide, Over 100,000 children die every day from the lack of clean drinking water***, and many of these are in the rural areas of Uganda.

Many doctors agree that the best way to help with the healthcare for the people in the villages of Uganda is the provision of clean drinking water.  In addition to housing the Water Source Office, the Source Café is committed to addressing this problem through creative community partnerships.  Join us in our effort!
